- Save gasoline while going green. Keep your tires properly inflated and get regular tune-ups. Obey the speed limit and avoid rapid, unnecessary acceleration.
Every gallon of gasoline you burn produces 19 pounds of carbon dioxide.
- Pedal your bike. For every mile you ride your bike instead of driving a car
, you avoid the production of about one pound of carbon dioxide.
Push your mower. Replace your gasoline-powered lawn mower with the kind you push, which emits nothing but clippings and burns calories to boot. Mowing for an hour with a gasoline-powered mower can produce as much air pollution as a 350-mile drive in a car.
Use a fan. In summer, use fans instead of the air conditioner when practical. Using fans to supplement air conditioning allows you to raise the thermostat temperature and use less energy. Fans cost less to use than air conditioners.
